On night exterior Steadicam or dolly shots, I'll often use a variation of Russell Carpenter's Kino Flo idea. I'll attach a 12" diameter chinese lantern to the end of a 10' long bamboo pole, at the other end I'll add a household dimmer so you can adjust the intensity of the light while walking.
