Agents Mulder and Scully survey the interior of the enigmatic domed structures erected in the middle of a remote cornfield. While the exteriors of the tent-like domes were shot on location in Bakersfield, California, the interiors were executed on stage at Fox. "We did some exposure tests inside the domes to determine the best stop that would hold the detail in the fabric and the actor's fleshtones," notes gaffer Jerry Solomon. "At 500 ASA the fabric read at about a T8 and the faces were at about a T2.8/4. We basically split the difference."
