Though some plates were photographed in Manhattan, the meteor shower scene was primarily shot in downtown Los Angeles. As Bay remembers, "We roped off seven blocks and had just four days to do some major stunts. We had seven cars flying through the air, asteroids ripping through buses — it's amazing what we did in four days." The special effects crew was headed by John Frazier (Speed, Waterworld).
