2007 ASC John Alonzo Student Heritage Award

John Alonzo, ASCThe American Society of Cinematographers is pleased to invite you to recommend eligible students for consideration in the 2007 ASC John Alonzo Heritage Award competition. This honor is designed to inspire the next generation of cinematographers and to help them pursue their dreams. It also celebrates the memory of our most extraordinary artists.

The award will be presented to one or more recipients at the ASC Nominees’ Dinner and the winners will be invited to attend the 21st  Annual ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards celebration on February 18, 2007, at the Century Plaza Hyatt Regency in Los Angeles.

Eligible students must be in their final year of school or must have graduated within the past year. The winner(s) will be chosen by a jury of ASC members. Round-trip transportation and accommodations for the awards evening will be provided by the ASC.

Each year, the Heritage Award is dedicated to the memory of a deceased ASC member. Alonzo compiled some 65 narrative film credits during his storied career, including such classics as Chinatown, which earned him  an Oscar nomination in 1975, Harold and Maude, Sounder, Lady Sings the  Blues, Pete 'n' Tillie, The Bad News Bears, Black Sunday, Casey's  Shadow, Norma Rae, Scarface, Steel Magnolias and Cool World. He earned  Emmy nominations for the miniseries World War II: When Lions Roared in  1994 and Lansky in 1999. He took top honors in 2001 for a live-television rendition of Fail Safe.
