From June 6-7, Cine Gear Expo 2003 gathered filmmakers and manufacturers on the Universal Studios backlot to share ideas, debate issues and explore the possibilities of the future of filmmaking.
The ASC, along with the International Cinematographers Guild (ICG) and International Documentary Association (IDA), took the lead at the summit sharing hosting duties for a number of key events.
Highlights included:
- A panel discussion hosted by ASC President Richard Crudo that featured cutting-edge cinematographers like Russ Carpenter, ASC, Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC and Steven Poster, ASC. analyzing the possibilities and limitations of the evolving art and craft of digital intermediate technology.
- A live Internet chat featuring John Schwartzman, ASC and a conversation between Schwartzman and his key grip Les Tomita about their collaboration during the production of Seabiscuit.
- A Point-of-View seminar moderated by ICG National President George Spiro Dibie, ASC featuring cinematographers Russ Alsobrook, ASC, Garrett Brown, James Chressanthis, ASC, Michael Goi, Victor Nelli, Bob Primes, ASC and Amy Vincent, ASC.
- A panel sponsored by IDA on how the evolution of Super 16 mm film technology is opening new horizons for documentary filmmakers.
- A conversation with Pauline Heaton, CSC, one of the world's most eminent and influential underwater cinematographers.
