Laszlo Kovacs Featured In Kodak Three
Reeler Series at Los Angeles Film Festival

LOS ANGELES, June 22, 2005 – Venerable cinematographer Laszlo Kovacs, ASC will discuss the making of Paper Moon, Shampoo and Easy Rider after screening one reel of each of those classic films at the Los Angeles Film Festival (LAFF) here on Saturday, June 25, at the Directors Guild of America Theatre (DGA) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Laszlo Kovacs is one of the most talented artists of our times,” says Mike Morelli, vice president and general manager, Hollywood region, for Kodak’s Entertainment Imaging Division. “We created and have sponsored the Kodak Three Reeler series at the festival for several years because it is a unique forum where movie fans, filmmakers and students can gain insights into the art of cinematography.”

Kovacs was a student at the Academy of Drama and Film Art in Budapest in 1956 during a popular uprising against the communist regime. He migrated the United States as a political refugee in search of a dream in 1957. Kovacs launched his career shooting “biker” films, such as A Man Called Dagger and Hell’s Angels on Wheel, during the early 1960s. He broke into the mainstream in 1969 when Easy Rider captured the imagination of moviegoers around the world.

Kovacs has subsequently compiled more than 60 narrative film credits, including such memorable titles as What’s Up Doc?, Paper Moon, A Cold Day in the Park, Five Easy Pieces, The King of Marvin Gardens, Slither, Shampoo, New York, New York, Ghostbusters, Mask, Radio Flyer, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Return to Me, Miss Congeniality, and Two Weeks Notice. The cinematographer has received Lifetime Achievement Awards from his peers at the American Society of Cinematographers (2001) and at the Camerimage International Festival of the Art of Cinematography (1998).

Tickets or passes for the Kodak Three Reeler can be purchased at the LAFF box office located at the 2nd Floor of the Virgin Megastore (8000 Sunset Blvd @ Crescent Heights). Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
