John Toll Honored by National Board of Review
John Toll, ASC will receive the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures (NBR) Career Achievement Award for Cinematography when the NBR hands out its annual kudos on Jan. 13 in New York.
"We are thrilled to be honoring the outstanding work of John Toll," commented NBR president Annie Schulhof. "Mr. Toll's ability to set the film's tone and mood by 'painting with light' is unsurpassed. His sense of composition leaves the viewer with indelible images."
Toll is a two-time Oscar winner for his work on Legends of the Fall and Braveheart, respectively. He also earned an Oscar nomination for his cinematography on The Thin Red Line. His other credits include Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky, The Rainmaker and The Last Samurai – which was picked by the NBR as the second best film of 2003 behind best picture winner Mystic River.
